The effects of aquatic exercises on body functions, activity and participation in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: a systematic review

Introduction: Aquatic exercises may benefit children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP). Nevertheless, there are few studies about the efficacy safety of those interventions for this population. Therefore, objective study was to perform a systematic review effects aquatic in CP, considering outcomes related body structure, function, activity, participation; based on World Health Organization International Classification Functioning, Disability framework (ICF). Methods: We searched experimental or quasi-experimental exercises’ CP. used databases PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scielo, LILACS, SPORTDiscus, Cochrane Reviews, Trials, PEDro, from January 1st, 2011, December 31st, 2020. In addition, risk bias assessed PEDro tool. Results: 10 randomized clinical trials five were included. The focus aerobic activities spastic mainly classified as levels I III Gross Motor Function System (GMFCS), structure activity. Thirteen reported positive effects, but methodological quality low. Discussion: exercise programs feasible demonstrate effect There is need better quality, including GMFCS V domain participation.
